Drive Shaft

Core Advantage
1. Efficient power transmission: The drive shaft serves as the "power highway" connecting the gearbox and drive axle, capable of stably transmitting torque up to several thousand newton-meters to ensure continuous power output.
2. Adaptability to complex operating conditions: The universal joint design ensures stable power transmission of the drive shaft even during dynamic suspension compression (axle spacing variation within ±50mm).

Key application scenarios
• Rear-wheel-drive models: such as the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which utilize an integral drive shaft to connect the transmission with the rear axle.
• Four-wheel drive system: A multi-link transmission network is established between the transfer case and front/rear axles to enable intelligent power distribution.

• New energy vehicles: Designed to meet high-torque motor requirements, with some models featuring speed-regulated transmission systems that achieve over 98% efficiency.

Critical Material Selection

Material Type Representative Steel Grade Properties and Application Scenarios
Carbon Steel 45# Low cost, good machinability, widely used in general drive shafts and tubes.
Alloy Steel 40Cr, 42CrMo High strength, good hardenability, suitable for cross shafts and spline shafts under heavy loads.
High-strength Alloy Steel 20MnVB, 16MnCr5 Used in universal joint components; after carburizing and quenching, the surface hardness reaches HRC58-62.
Aluminum Alloy -- 58% lighter than steel, used in mid-to-high-end vehicles seeking lightweight construction.
Carbon Fiber Composite Materials PEEK with carbon fiber 40%-95% weight reduction, used in high-performance vehicles, but with higher cost.

Core Production Process
1. Material preparation: Select cold-drawn seamless steel pipes or alloy steel bars as blanks to ensure uniform microstructure.
2. Mechanical processing:
● Shaft tube: CNC lathe is used for outer diameter and end face machining, ensuring straightness ≤0.5mm/m.
● Flower key: Machined using rolling cutting method with tooth profile error ≤0.01mm, surface finish enhanced through cold stamping.
3. Heat treatment:
● The tempering treatment enhances the overall mechanical properties;
● Surface quenching (e.g., high-frequency induction quenching) achieves an HRC58-62 hardness for the journal, enhancing wear resistance.
4. Assembly and Testing:
● Laser alignment of universal joints with phase error ≤5°;
● Dynamic balance debugging, with residual imbalance ≤30g·cm;
The sealing test achieves an IP67 protection rating with 900-hour salt spray resistance.
